How To Use Twitter For Business
posted by ADMIN // June 05, 2009 // Market Your Website
Assuming that you haven’t been living in a cave for the past six months, you’ve probably heard of Twitter, an online messaging service. After all, Oprah Winfrey is on Twitter, as is Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, not to mention President Barack Obama.
What is Twitter, though – and, more importantly, how can you use it in your business?
Twitter is a social networking site that consists of individuals and companies having the ability to post 140-character messages (known as “tweets”) that will instantly be delivered to those people who have signed up to follow you. At the same time, the best way to benefit from Twitter is to also follow others.
For example, let’s say that you operate a website designed to help entrepreneurs. You would sign up for Twitter and you would then initiate a search for others who would share your interest. In that way, you’d build up a core group of people and groups that might be posting material that could be of use to you.
Human nature being what it is, you’ll find that most of the people that you choose to follow will automatically follow you. In a matter of a few days, it’s possible to gain as many as two hundred followers.
To make the most of your tweets, you can announce whenever you have a new blog post, a new article, or anything else that might be useful to your followers. Keep in mind, though, that it’s also good to occasionally post something that is simply personal or just plain silly. Some of the goofiest little tweets have been “retweeted” all over Twitter, thereby gaining more followers.
The key to success is to find the right balance between relevant posts and “fun” tweets. With a little foresight, a little research, and a little bit of common sense, you might find that Twitter is so much more than just a messaging service that announces that you’ve found a great little Mexican restaurant that no one knows about.
Then again, tweeting about that restaurant might well cause an influx of new business from those who follow you and might want to give the place a try.
