Congratulations to the winners of the Best New Small Business Website Award Summer 2009! First and second place winners were chosen from seven finalists. The winners were determined by a combination of audience voting and judges' scores (see judging criteria.)

Hegle Tile of Southern California wanted to target potential clients researching tile providers via the web. The company’s online showroom not only displays its diverse portfolio, but gives clients a true sensory experience similar to visiting a real showroom – complete with Spanish music. Simple navigation and fast Flash maintain the relaxing mood of the site, and visitors click quickly through professional photos. This site sets a strong example for companies wanting to display their portfolio of work and create an enjoyable user experience.

Sonoma County winery Parkers Estate needed a new website after a rebranding initiative gave the brand a more contemporary look. High-quality photos reinforce the brand’s look while descriptions, reviews and pairing information helps consumers learn more about the wines. A sophisticated search feature enables visitors to find the wines at stores near them. Parkers Estate serves as a good example for companies wanting to drive and complement retail sales with their online presence.

Bavaria Brewing: Green

The centuries-old Bavaria brewery in Lieshout, Holland wanted to expand its brand awareness in the U.S. by communicating about its environmentally friendly brewing practices. Combining Flash and creative design, Bavaria’s green site features an illustrated, self-driven virtual tour of the brewery and engages visitors with interactive e-postcards and quizzes. The company controls its own content via a backend technology. This approach may work best for companies that want a fun, educational and easy to maintain site.
